Celebrating Success at Starkweather Academy

The Eagles for Children (EFC) Grant Program is a remarkable example of what can happen when country club members come together to make a difference in children's lives. Through the generosity of members at Meadowbrook Country Club and Walnut Creek Country Club, charitable organizations like the Rotary Club of Plymouth A.M. receive grant funding assistance to provide children and families with opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach.

In years past and in 2026, the Rotary Club of Plymouth A.M. was honored to receive Eagles for Children grants from both Meadowbrook Country Club and Walnut Creek Country Club. These EFC grants provided the funding to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of the entire 2026 graduating class of students at Plymouth's Starkweather Academy.

For many of these young people, graduating from high school is far more than simply receiving a diploma; it is a monumental accomplishment.

​

According to Starkweather Academy Principal Kim Doman, many students are referred to Starkweather because they are at risk of not graduating on time or, in some cases, not graduating at all. Anxiety, mental health challenges, attendance issues, and a lack of credits are among the reasons students may be referred.

​

In larger schools, some of these young students risk falling through the cracks.

​

At Starkweather, however, something different happens.

​

With smaller class sizes and strong, personal relationships between students, teachers, and staff, students become part of a caring community where they feel seen, heard, valued, and supported. They begin to believe in themselves and, most importantly, believe that they can succeed.

​

As Principal Doman explains, many students arrive carrying significant challenges and difficult experiences. Starkweather gives them a place to overcome adversity, rebuild confidence, learn, grow, and ultimately earn their high school diploma.

 

Supporting Our Kids, Strengthening Our Community

 

We are incredibly thankful to Meadowbrook and Walnut Creek for their support of the Eagles for Children program and for giving the Rotary Club of Plymouth A.M. the opportunity to support the Starkweather Academy students: through this Annual Celebration of their accomplishments as well as through scholarships, the Starkweather Champions program, and other programs directed toward helping these young people succeed.
