​John was a legal clerk / court reporter assigned to the Judge Advocates General at Camp Casey Korea.  Camp Casey was one of the closest camps to the DMZ dividing North and South Korea.  His job consisted mostly of court-martials for crimes against other soldiers or Army-related issues.  There were only two of them in the whole country of Korea. He served there from October 1970 to October 1971 living just 10 miles from North Korea.
