Richard Allen Larrick was serving his country during the Vietnam War when he gave his all in the line of duty. Richard was drafted into the Army via the Selective Service. He began his tour on 6 January 1968. His military occupation or specialty was Light Weapons Infantry. He was attached to the 11th Light Infantry Brigade, 123rd Aviation Battalion, Aero Rifle Platoon, B Company, Americal Division, USARV.
During his service in the Vietnam War, Army Corporal Larrick experienced a traumatic event which ultimately resulted in loss of life on 26 September 1968. Recorded circumstances attributed to:
Died through hostile action .. small arms fire. Incident location: 13 km West of Tam Ky Airfield, South Vietnam, Quang Tin province, South Vietnam. Richard was awarded the rank of Corporal posthumously.
For his service and sacrifice, Richard Larrick was awarded The Purple Heart, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross, the Bronze Star (Merit), the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Marksmanship Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Army Presidential Unit Citation.
Richard Allen Larrick was born on 29 May 1947. He was the son of Irma (Glass) Larrick of Plymouth and Delbert Larrick. According to records, Michigan was his home or enlistment state and Wayne county has been included within the archival record. Plymouth is listed as his City of enlistment. Richard was survived by his parents, Delbert and Irma Larrick, and by his siblings Lynda, Bonnie, Mona and Dale Larrick.
Richard Allen Larrick is interred at Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth, Michigan. Richard is remembered on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC. Name inscribed at VVM Wall, Panel 42w, Line 18.
